Contest 1: Get Moving -- End of Week One
See this post for contest details. It is not too late to join!
This week was a great one for getting back into the exercise routine as most of us in the northern hemisphere had our first hint of spring being right around the corner. We had a few bright, clear, sun-filled days, even if the air was still a bit brisk, which reminded us that soon we will be shedding our extra clothing layers and showing some skin. What better motivation could one ask?
Speaking of motivation, what motivated you this week, or in general, to exercise? I have come to see it as the foundation for everything else in my life. If I am exercising regularly, I see my energy levels go up, my stress levels go down, my optimism increase, and my waistline decrease. All good things, right? I just feel better, can do more, and have a more positive attitude when I exercise. That has become my motivation.
What about you? Leave a comment to let us know how you did this week. Did you get your three exercise sessions in? More? Better yet, what got you moving, even when you did not want to? We can learn something from each other, I am sure. If you would like to tell us what form of exercise you did, that's great, too. Maybe you found something we would all like to try.

I was successful in exercising three times this week! I forced myself to take it slow because I tend to overdo at the beginning of getting back into a routine (Type A? Why yes, I am) and since I am prone to injuries (and boarding a flight for vacation in less than a week), I really did not want to risk hurting myself. Overall though, I am pleased with what I accomplished. On to an even better Week 2!

Week 1 - YAY!
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday - walked outside for 30-60 minutes.
And the warmer weather motivated me. It was so nice to get out and clear the winter mustiness out of the lungs!
Well, I'll be honest, reading your stories about the people who are in their 40's and are unable to get around helped motivate me. I hadn't done much physical activity all winter and it was already taking a toll on my body so I thought I'd try your contest to see if I could even do it. The first day the sun really motivated me. After 5 months of snow, cold and ice even upper 30's felt like a heat wave. It felt great to walk outside in the sunshine even if the air was pretty brisk. I walked 30 minutes Thurs. & Fri. Saturday it was another gloomy, rainy day so I stayed inside and played the Wii. After bowling and boxing against the hubby I am hurting but it's a good hurt. Plus, I beat him in all 3 games of bowling and once in boxing - something that never happens. Took Sunday off but plan to get back at it today. Thanks for helping to motivate me. I agree - I feel better when I get some exercise in. Good luck everyone!
Thursday- walked 30 min.
Friday - walked 30 min.
Saturday- bowled and boxed on the Wii 40 min.
Things were crazy from the middle of the week on, but I got a lot packed in early. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday I hit the gym. I did about 25 minutes of walking and running on the treadmill, and about 30 minutes of weights. On Sunday I threw in about 15 minutes of boxing on the heavy bag. Talk about an awesome stress reducer!
It's been hard to get back in the habit of working out regularly, but the more I do it, the more motivated I get, the better I feel and I'm more clear-headed.
I didn't have much time this weekend, but I'm definitely going to work out tonight!
OK, I didn't do any "traditional" exercise, but I think my workouts counted...you tell me:
Tuesday: Checked cows (walked 30 minutes over uneven hilly terrain) and wrestled one calf to the ground for an ear tag
Wednesday: Played on the trampoline with the kids for 45 minutes
Thursday: I was lazy
Friday: Again, checked cows...30-40 minutes of fast paced walking over uneven hilly terrain.
Saturday: Planted and watered 300 tomato plants...lots of bending and squatting and walking
Sunday: Played on the trampoline with the kids for 20 minutes.
Do I qualify? I made myself an exercise log and this is what I logged for last week. The cow-checking is quite an accomplishment...I usually take the Ranger or the truck :-)
Tues- 1hr Walking laps
Wed-45min strength/resistence/weights
Thurs-1hr walking laps
Fri-1hr walking laps
Don't know how positive I feel, because people around me aren't very positive. Takes alot of extra energy to be positive for me and everyone else. Nice weather around the corner- hope sunshine and fresh air will change attitudes. Making me get in my water quota though. And a standing date every morning helps make me accountable-no excuse unless it's a really good one!
Tuesday: Squash (40 minutes)
Thursday: Squash (40 minutes)
Sunday: 1 mile of running, 2 of hobbling
My knees don't like me very much at the moment so this week might be light of cardiovascular activity. Might lift weights or sleep, not sure which.
Found these three comments down below on the first contest post. Bringing them up here just so I don't forget to count them.
Deeleea: 3/3 days completed!
Drew: I did 4 days of weight lifting 30 mins each time. 2 days of speed training 45 mins each day. And, one day of track practice for an hour. Found out that track isn't my thing.
Natalee: I lifted weights 3 times for 30 minutes. Played dodge ball twice for 40 minutes.
You guys are amazing! Some of the busiest people on the planet and look at you... making time for exercise. My hat is off to you!
Hope everyone is feeling good and ready for another week. Here's to an even better Week 2!
