The Beat of the Heart
Cities feel like beings to me, with pulses and emotions and the ability to provide comfort. The diversity of people, the economy, historical, civic and cultural events, and the prevalence of tourism all combine to give a city its heartbeat, its energy. Of course, the stronger those elements are, the stronger the beat.
Chicago is probably my favorite city in the world. I only say 'probably' because I have not yet been to them all and it is possible that another may win my heart someday. But for today, Chicago is my favorite. I have always loved the energy I feel in Chicago. It is not an overwhelming, chaotic, frenzied type of energy that I assume larger cities like New York or Los Angeles may have (at least in areas) but more of a brisk yet purposeful, relaxed yet steady beat that keeps me motivated and positive.
I am heading up there again in a few weeks for an extended stay at my favorite hotel, in one of my favorite locations, and I intend to do all my favorite things. I also expect to spend hours working on my novel in a funky coffee shop, watching the colorful people pass by. I am looking forward to this visit with my dear friend. I have been gone far too long.
Which is your favorite city? I am always looking for new places to visit, where would you have me travel?

About My Day

My favorite city is Paris. Cliche', I know, but it's true. I was there in November 2001, and think of it fondly at least once a week. Someday, I will live there. Not forever, but for a while.
I've never really met a city that I "like". Cities are too much for me...to many people, buildings, and vehicles in too small of a space. I can't breathe. I can't think. Too much noise, too much movement.
That said, I've been to very few cities. Louisville, of course, because I grew up in that area. It's a nice place, as far as cities go. Have you been there? You might enjoy it. I've also been to Cincinnati, Nashville (often), and Phoenix. I HATED Phoenix. Ummm, Cleveland. It was ok--the Rock n Roll hall of fame is there :-)
If I were going to travel, I'd want to travel to small towns, where the pace is slower. I want to visit national parks and nature preserves and hidden beaches and places untouched by man, where I can take in all of what God has created. Where it is quiet, and peaceful, and empty.
Seattle. I love San Francisco, but Seattle makes me very happy.
I might get to go to Chicago later this year. That would be fun. I've never been there.
Can you be in love with several cities? Cuz I'm torn between Miami, San Francisco, Madrid, and Istanbul. I love them all. I guess the test would be if I could go to any one, disregarding cost, which would I go to...don't know. (changed my mind 5 times in 5 seconds just thinking about it)
I adore Santa Monica...but I was born there. Love it though. Sigh. Also San Francisco. And Santa Cruz. And San Diego.
I may be a California girl at heart. :) Well there's really no may in there. I am. For sure.
Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, Paris, and Madrid are all on my list of places to visit. I may (big question mark) get to visit San Diego later this year, which would be great.
if any of you get to Chicago, please let me know. I'd love to come up and show you around.
Chicago and San Diego are definitely up there for me!!
